# Mark Notification Read

> Mark one notification as read.

Requires an API key with the `write` scope.

Idempotent: marking a notification that is already read answers `{ "data": { "updated": 0 } }`. A notification that belongs to someone else, or to another workspace, is never touched and also answers `updated: 0`.

## Path Parameters

<ParamField path="notification_id" type="string" required>The notification `id` from the list.</ParamField>

## Response

Returns `{ "data": { "updated": 1 } }`, `1` when the notification was unread.

<RequestExample>
```bash cURL
curl -X POST "https://api.foxreach.io/api/v1/notifications/clx1abc/read" \
  -H "X-API-Key: otr_your_key"
```

```python Python SDK (beta)
from foxreach import FoxReach
client = FoxReach(api_key="otr_your_key")
result = client.notifications.mark_read("clx1abc")
```

```typescript TypeScript SDK (beta)
import { FoxReach } from "foxreach";
const client = new FoxReach({ apiKey: "otr_your_key" });
const result = await client.notifications.markRead("clx1abc");
```

</RequestExample>

<ResponseExample>
```json
{ "data": { "updated": 1 } }
```
</ResponseExample>

## Errors

| Status | Description |
|--------|-------------|
| `401` | Missing, invalid, revoked or expired API key |
| `403` | API key does not have the required scope: `write` |

## Rate Limit

- **120 requests per minute, shared by every `write` call in your workspace.** Fixed 60-second window.
- Every response includes `X-RateLimit-Limit`, `X-RateLimit-Remaining`, `X-RateLimit-Reset` (unix epoch seconds) and `X-RateLimit-Bucket` (`write`).
- A `429` response includes a `Retry-After` header (seconds until the bucket resets).

For client-side patterns, see [Rate Limiting](/rate-limiting).
