# Add Thread Note

> Add an internal note to a thread.

Requires an API key with the `write` scope.

The note is credited to the user who owns the API key, so its author shows that person's name. It is never sent to the lead. The call writes an `audit.inbox_note.created` entry in the event log that records the key, not the note text.

## Path Parameters

<ParamField path="reply_id" type="string" required>
  The unique identifier of the thread (reply).
</ParamField>

## Body Parameters

<ParamField body="content" type="string" required>
  The note text. Up to 200,000 characters; leading and trailing spaces are trimmed.
</ParamField>

## Response

Returns the created note in `data`.

<RequestExample>
```bash cURL
curl -X POST "https://api.foxreach.io/api/v1/inbox/threads/rpl_abc123/notes" \
  -H "X-API-Key: otr_your_key" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"content": "Call Tuesday about pricing."}'
```

```python Python SDK
from foxreach import FoxReach
client = FoxReach(api_key="otr_your_key")
note = client.inbox.add_note("rpl_abc123", "Call Tuesday about pricing.")
```

```typescript TypeScript SDK
import { FoxReach } from "foxreach";
const client = new FoxReach({ apiKey: "otr_your_key" });
const note = await client.inbox.addNote("rpl_abc123", "Call Tuesday about pricing.");
```

</RequestExample>

<ResponseExample>
```json
{
  "data": {
    "id": "nt_abc123",
    "threadId": "rpl_abc123",
    "content": "Call Tuesday about pricing.",
    "author": { "id": "usr_1", "name": "Alex Doe", "email": "alex@yourcompany.com" },
    "createdAt": "2026-11-04T09:30:00",
    "updatedAt": "2026-11-04T09:30:00"
  }
}
```
</ResponseExample>

## Errors

| Status | Description |
|--------|-------------|
| `401` | Missing, invalid, revoked or expired API key |
| `403` | API key does not have the required scope: `write` |
| `404` | Thread not found in this workspace |
| `422` | Empty or blank `content` |

## Rate Limit

- **120 requests per minute, shared by every `write` call in your workspace.** Fixed 60-second window.
- Every response includes `X-RateLimit-Limit`, `X-RateLimit-Remaining`, `X-RateLimit-Reset` (unix epoch seconds) and `X-RateLimit-Bucket` (`write`).
- A `429` response includes a `Retry-After` header (seconds until the bucket resets).

For client-side patterns, see [Rate Limiting](/rate-limiting).
